The name of Changgeng originates from “The Book of Songs, Xiaoya, Dadong". “East has Qiming, West has Changgeng.” The Qiming star is in the East and Changgeng is in the West in the evening. It means the shining star for the night. Qiming and Changgeng are both refer to Venus. In the morning, it is called Qiming in the East and in the evening, it is called Changgeng in the West. The name of Changgeng also indicates that our Changgeng optics technology Co., Ltd is a dynamic, ambitious and constructive enterprise with positive energy!
The name of Laowa comes from the modest network name of the founder: the old frog at the bottom hole. The founder of the company Li Dayong graduated from Beijing university of science and technology majoring in optics. In more than 20 years after graduation, he has been engaging in optical design and has developed plenty of optical lens. Therefore, he has rich theory and practical experience in optics. Li Dayong gave himself the network name: the old frog at the bottom hole. The implication of the network name is that altghough we live in the “bottome hole”, we have big dreams. Although we do not have a solid foundation, a firm platform, rich resources and advanced technology in all areas, we have some ideas in the little piece of heaven and in the field of optics, just like the frog at the bottom hole, which looks at the wide sky! As long as we do not give up, do not compromise, insist on our dreams and attract more far-sighted personage bringing craftsmen spirit and firm belief, we will lay a piece of our own heaven and earth beacause our dreams are not so faraway. This is the spirit of Laowa! This is our team! That's why our lenses named Dreamer series!

The FFⅡ 10mm F2.8 C&D-Dreamer lens was officially launched and won the TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) "Best Ultra-Wide Prime Lens" Award, the Best Product Award at The Photography & Video Show 2024 (Birmingham, UK), the 15th Hualong Award for Best Ultra-Wide-Angle Prime Lens, and the EISA BEST PRODUCT 2023-2024 ULTRA WIDEANGLE LENS and 2023-2024 Best Ultra-Wide-Angle Award.
The Ultima 12-120mm T4 S35 8K Broadcast Zoom Lens Officially Released at BIRTV Expoin Beijing, marking Laowa's entry into the 8K broadcast market.

July: The Aurogon FF 10-50X NA0.5 Supermicro APO, which demonstrates continuous innovation in optical design and boasts a 10-50x magnification and can be directly mounted on a camera, won the the 2023 Best Special Purpose Lens at the LUCIE TECHNICAL AWARDS.

December: Laowa's First Autofocus Lens – 10mm F2.8 C&D-Dreamer launched as a milestone release.
Laowa lenses participated in the filming of "INTO SPACE", China's first space documentary feature film, and many of its lenses were used for 8K ultra-high-definition shooting in space.

On September 20, 2021, at 15:00 Beijing Time, the Long March-7 Y4 carrier rocket successfully launched the Tianzhou-3 cargo spacecraft from Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site in Hainan. As one of the first professional cinema lenses deployed to the Chinese space station, Laowa lenses powered the first space documentary feature film, capturing this milestone moment!
April: Launched as LAOWA's first F0.95 Ultra-Large Aperture lens, Argus 33mm F0.95, immediately becoming a bestseller.
August: The 33mm F0.95 and 15mm F4.5 shift lenses won the EISA MANUAL LENS and EISA SPECIAL PURPOSE LENS,respectively.
September: LAOWA launched its second Argus series masterpiece – the groundbreaking 35mm F0.95 APO for full-frame cameras,It is the only lens of this specification currently available worldwide.
December: The 45mm F0.95 lens was launched, expanding users' choices of Laowa large aperture lenses.
Laowa officially released the "Wide-Angle Trinity" series, including the FFⅡ 9mm F5.6 W-Dreamer, FFⅡ 11mm F4.5 C-Dreamer, and FFⅡ 14mm F4.0 C&D-Dreamer.
The Laowa 100mm F2.8 CA-Dreamer Macro 2X was awarded "Best DSLR Macro Lens" by TIPA (Technical Image Press Association), one of the most prestigious photography organizations globally.
June: The Laowa 9mm F5.6 was released, breaking the specification limit of a 10mm ultra-wide-angle lens for full-frame cameras.
On October 1st, the Laowa 15mm F4.5 Shift lens was released, breaking the monopoly and specification restrictions of major optical manufacturers on shift lenses and gaining popularity among commercial architectural photographers worldwide.
On December 30, the Laowa 25-100mm T2.9 cine lens with 4x range of zoom was officially launched, marking another masterpiece in the field of professional film. This lens was used by cinematographer Bao Dexi in the acclaimed film "Blossoms".
April: Launched the Laowa 100mm F2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO, which became an instant bestseller and flagship product.
In the second half of the year, a glass cold processing workshop was established, enabling us to independently carry out lens research and development, assemble finished products, and sell them. At the same time, we also possessed preliminary aspheric surface manufacturing and testing capabilities.
